Resistance Bands to Build a Rounder Butt

Resistance bands are a great tool to utilize for the lower body and help intensify workouts. The use of bands engages glute muscles that may be under-stimulated by basic exercises. They are lightweight, cheap and you can take them with you to the gym or when you travel. There are different types and resistance grades. When using the traditional loop band, the light grades are used for warm-ups and glute activation. Heavy grades are great to wear during heavier lifts and supersets and they are a great to incorporate with other exercises such as squats, deadlifts and hip thrusts. It is important that you are pushing the resistance with full motion and are feeling the contraction of the muscle. Let’s take a basic squat, for example: when you are performing a squat with a heavier resistance band, the important part of this exercise is to make sure you are going down to a full 90 degrees while simultaneously avoiding the knees from caving in. Here are three great exercises to use to bui...

VACATION: Don’t Give Up On Your Goals!

Going on vacation doesn’t mean your health goal must unravel. You can do a few simple things that will help you stay on track as well as make you feel like you’ve had the vacation you deserve. Try these: Have a plan. Leaving it to chance or making last-minute decisions will end up in health goal disaster. Decide in advance how many free or cheat meals you will have. Are you staying at a hotel, with friends or renting a house? Are you bringing your own food? Will you have a way to cook? Is there a gym nearby to get a couple of workouts in? Making some of these decisions in advance will help keep you from getting derailed. I food prep all my meals to take with me for my vacations. Then I choose one or two meals to splurge on when I go out with friends or family. Do some pre- and post-prepping. When going on vacation or preparing for an extra indulgence, do some extra cardio before and make sure to get all your workouts in. Be sure to plan a little extra after you get back as well to ...

Diet Can Trump the Alzheimer’s Gene ApoE

Back in the 1990s, a major susceptibility gene was discovered for Alzheimer’s, called ApoE4. If we have one ApoE4 gene, either from our mom or dad, like about 15 percent of the U.S. population does, our risk of getting Alzheimer’s is tripled. If we’re like the 1-in-50 folks who have ApoE4 genes from both parents, we may be at nine times the risk. But there are ways to minimize that risk, which is the focus of my video The Alzheimer’s Gene: Controlling ApoE . The highest frequency of ApoE4 in the world is in Nigeria, but Nigerians also have some of the lowest Alzheimer’s rates. To understand this paradox, one has to understand the role of ApoE. What does the ApoE gene do? ApoE is “the principal cholesterol carrier in the brain.” So, the Nigerians’ diet appeared to have trumped their genes, with their low cholesterol levels from their low intake of animal fat from living off of mainly grains and vegetables. Indeed, Nigerians have high ApoE4, but Alzheimer’s is a rarity, thanks, p...

Does Vitamin C Help With Terminal Cancer?

Studies in the 1970s showed an extraordinary survival gain in terminal cancer patients with vitamin C, a “simple and relatively nontoxic therapy.” It’s no wonder it got a lot of attention, especially when reported by a world-renowned scientist, Linus Pauling . But studies in the 1980s found no such benefit, so scientists were “left with the inevitable conclusion that the apparent positive results [in the original study] were the product of case-selection bias rather than treatment effectiveness.” In the 1990s, though, an alternative explanation arose : The disappointing ’80s research only used oral vitamin C, whereas the apparently successful ’70s experiments also gave vitamin C intravenously, and we didn’t realize until the ’90s that the same dose given intravenously can lead to dramatically higher levels in the bloodstream than when taken orally. So maybe high dose vitamin C does help in terminal cancer, but maybe only when given intravenously. This is the topic of discussion in my...

We Rank the 4 Jurassic Movies

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom Movie Prediction Review: One of the tricky things about continuing a franchise is the artistic integrity required for critical impact. Vitamin C Pills Put to the Test for Cancer

Vitamin C “is no stranger to controversy, as evidenced by the fact that over 40 years lapsed” from the time citrus fruits were shown to cure scurvy in the 1700s and the widespread implementation of eating citrus to save lives. Is it possible we’re in the midst of a similar 40-year lag with research in the mid-1970s purporting to show that terminal cancer patients treated with vitamin C lived 4 times longer and sometimes 20 times longer? I explore this in my video Vitamin C Supplements for Terminal Cancer Patients . Researchers at the venerable Mayo Clinic decided to put vitamin C to the test, and they failed to show any benefit. The survival curves for both groups of patients were essentially identical. In fact, the one success story, a man with end-stage pancreatic cancer who had shown no response to any previous attempts at chemotherapy but started improving and was still alive five years later, was one of the patients who got the sugar pill placebos. It was official: Vitamin C d...

The Vitamin C Cancer Study that Started It All

In 1975, a remarkable case was reported of a 42-year-old man suffering from a malignant form of non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma who experienced a dramatic regression of the cancer after being given large doses of vitamin C intravenously, as I discuss in my video Intravenous Vitamin C for Terminal Cancer Patients . He seemed cured, so they stopped the vitamin C. The cancer came surging back. They restarted the vitamin C and apparently induced a second complete remission. Sometimes cancer does just spontaneously regress—it’s rare, but not unheard of. So, one could argue that the first remission was spontaneous, and it was just a coincidence that it happened when they started the vitamin C. However, given the trajectory the cancer was on, followed by the rapid remission, followed by the relapse when the vitamin C was stopped, followed by a second remission once restarted, the case strongly suggests that the vitamin C had something to do with the cancer’s remission. Now, multiple spontaneous regr...
